Wal-Mart Mexico and Western Union Company signed an agreement to offer international money transfer services which will be processed by UniTeller Financial Services throughout the country.

The firms announced that customers will be able to receive their money transfers through the 1,266 Bodega Aurrera, My Bodega Aurrera, Walmart, Superama and Suburbia stores during their 365-day operating hours throughout the country.

Through a statement, they said that these services will be activated starting on September 2016.

“We are delighted to partner with Walmart Mexico and Centroamérica, a leading retail chain with a strong presence and recognized brand, to expand access and convenience for our clients by receiving financial support from their loved ones. We continue to expand Western Union in Mexico, focused on being closer to our customers, “said Rodrigo García Estebarena, vice president and general manager of Western Union Mexico.

A Western Union analysis shows that speed, comfort, and immediate flow of resources to family and loved ones are important factors for both money senders and recipients.

“This service fits our strategy to provide the user with a simple experience that not only saves our customers money, but also time,” said Antonio Ocaranza, director of corporate communications for Walmart de México and Centroamérica.

Remittances to Mexico are the second largest source of foreign currency in the country and in the period between January and May grew 9.54% year-on-year.
