UniTeller’s CEO, Alberto Guerra, and Mastercard’s Senior Vice President, Digital Partnerships, Fintech and Enablers for North America, Stefany Bello, share an early look at the upcoming uLink Prepaid Mastercard®, a new solution designed to expand financial inclusion and make sending money home easier, safer, and more accessible.
The most impactful innovations in financial services are often driven by collaboration. When organizations align around a shared mission and complementary strengths, the result can be transformative. One such example is the partnership between UniTeller and Mastercard, coming together to introduce the uLink Card, a prepaid card program built to support underserved communities and modernize cross-border money movement.
A Shared Commitment to Financial Inclusion
At the core of the UniTeller–Mastercard partnership is a common goal: expanding access to secure and reliable financial tools for individuals who are traditionally underserved by the banking system.
Speaking with FinTech Futures in Las Vegas, Alberto Guerra highlighted the mission behind the collaboration:
“We specialize in cross-border payments and remittances. Many of our customers in the U.S. don’t have access to basic financial instruments. Our mission is to give them secure, efficient ways to send money home.”
Mastercard’s role goes beyond infrastructure. According to Mr. Guerra, the partnership works because both organizations share a customer-first mindset.
“Mastercard understands our mission. They deliver solutions that truly benefit our customers, beyond just products,” he added.
Aligning Vision and Expertise
Stefany Bello emphasized the natural alignment between the two organizations:
“From our first meetings, there was clear synergy in values: Doing well by doing good, and leveraging each other’s capabilities.”
With firsthand experience in remittances, Bello underscored the importance of designing solutions that address real customer needs. The partnership focuses on safety, security, scalability, and digitization across global remittance corridors, combining Mastercard’s global network with UniTeller’s deep expertise in cross-border payments.
Introducing the uLink Card
The upcoming uLink Card is designed to remove traditional banking barriers while enabling seamless money movement across borders.
“It’s a prepaid debit card powered by Mastercard that allows customers to open an account without going to a bank,” said Guerra.
The card is directly integrated with the uLink SuperApp, enabling users to:
- Send international money transfers with no transfer fees
- Add funds to their uLink Card
- Receive payroll deposits
- Make everyday purchases locally and globally
This integration creates a unified digital experience that supports both domestic financial activity and international remittances.
Meeting Real-World Needs
Bello highlighted the broader impact of digitizing remittances, particularly in regions where cash remains dominant:
“Consumers sending money home rely on it for essentials like education and daily expenses. Over $160 billion is sent from the U.S. to Latin America annually, much of it in cash. By digitizing these transfers, we’re providing safer, faster, and more reliable financial solutions.”
Stefany Bello
By shifting remittances into digital channels, the uLink Card helps reduce friction, increase transparency, and improve access to funds for recipients worldwide.
A Gateway to Financial Empowerment
Beyond money transfers, the uLink Card is positioned as a gateway to long-term financial empowerment.
“Having access to these funds opens doors to savings, expense management, and other benefits,” Guerra said. “It helps customers grow their economic capabilities and financial literacy.”

Through this partnership, UniTeller and Mastercard aim to deliver more than a remittance solution—creating pathways for individuals to participate more fully in the global financial ecosystem.
